Trouble Maker Takes Home Win After Win With "Now"

Trouble Maker (Hyuna of 4minute and Hyun-seung of Beast) swept clean all TV music programs in the first week of November, with their new song “Now” as the sweeper.

Starting with Show Champion on November 6, they won M! Countdown, Music Bank, Show! Music Core, and Inkigayo. They were pushed down from the top place on music charts by the popularity of the Infinite Challenge Music Festival’s works, but they’re still selling well.

To say that the song is doing well would be the ultimate understatement. It's becoming quite the national anthem so far as the song is being played in every club, every street corner, every mall known in Seoul. The popularity of the duo comes from both their song and their naturally sexy charms. They sell records and hits because their fans think that they work well together.

This is proven by the number of fans commenting on their effortless chemistry and the kind of music that they form together. Because of this kind of popularity, duos are becoming quite a trend in the Kpop music industry. Trouble Maker got it right when they were paired together, and hopefully they'll be seen in more promotions together after this one.

Trouble Maker vs. Miss A - Who's Sexier?

Trouble Maker and Miss A have come back onto the music scene with their unique brands of sexy.

Trouble Maker made the headlines first when their single "Now" and its corresponding music video was released in the last week of October. 4Minute HyunA and BEAST Hyunseung created a scandalous and explosive combination that sold a brand of sexy that was previously unseen in the music industry. Their brand of sexy was not just sexy, but it was lustful.

Like Us on Facebook :

CUBE Entertainment promised a new kind of sexy prior to the release of the mini-album, and it's safe to say that Trouble Maker delivered. The impact of their performance will not be easy forgotten.

Miss A came back early November with their 2nd album, Hush. Miss A's brand of sexy is not so titillating as Trouble Maker, but it does give an aura of sexiness that is both dangerous and mysterious. If Trouble Maker stepped over the line between moderate and scandalous, Miss A is barely keeping a balance between the two. Miss A's brand of sexy is dreamy, chic, and dynamic.

The two groups are inevitably facing off on the online music charts. The charts were all over the place because of various releases ranging from comeback stars to TV drama OSTs to Infinite Challenge concert songs, but when all the dust settled, it was a duel between Trouble Maker and Miss A for the top spot.

It all depends on the reception of the audience.

Trouble Maker consists of a male and a female performer. Because of this advantage, they can perform things that were previously unseen. There has never been a mixed-sex idol group that would rub bodies and flagrantly sell sex before, and honestly, there may never be another. Idol stars acting out a sex scene in their music video is unheard of, but it seems like it will never be heard of again. They perform in ways that are sexy and induce lust.

Some fans have expressed concern, saying, "I can't watch their performance with my parents" and "It's too sexy". They may be sexy beyond any other idol groups or singers out there, but perhaps that was taking it too far.

Adversely, Miss A has comeback with a more common type of sexy found in girl idol groups - the slight exposure, the hip sway, and their sexy makeup all have been seen and have been done. The thing that sets them apart may be their charisma and experience. Korean people like to say that someone who commands attention has a 'force' of attraction. That's what Miss A has - they have the 'force' of attraction that differentiates them from the hundreds of different idol stars.

In other words, Trouble Maker may tantalize their viewers, but Miss A appeals to the viewers.

"Sexy" is a hard word to couple with ultimate, unchangeable standards or criteria. When idol stars perform "sexy" on stage, it is for the purpose of both tantalizing and appealing. Therefore, the comparison between Miss A and Trouble Maker are often subjective when done by the critics because they have a tendency to pick what they like and want. In a case like this, it is best to allow the fans and the viewers decide on their own. The victor will be made clear in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Miss A has been garnering positive responses for their single and their music video. Many fans wonder if the "sexy" that was used for the music video can be translated unto a live stage.

K-pop stars get busy preparing their concerts every December. From big-name superstars to underground indie bands, a countless number of concerts await the fans. A concert adviser commented that some 40% of all concerts held in a year is scheduled for December.

A CJ E&M music business adviser commented, "December has a lot of memorable holidays, including Christmas and New Year's Eve. Not only do stars want to be remembered on those holidays but many of them relish wrapping up the year doing what they love - performing music. The second most amount of concerts is held in May, which celebrates the family and is ripe for event-type concerts."

There is no shortage of concerts prepared this year around. These tickets will sell out soon, so if you're planning on visiting Korea or are in Korea, make sure you get these tickets as soon as they are available.

The veteran musicians have announced their concert plans much to the delight of their fans. The two biggest names in this category are PSY and Jo Yong Pil.

PSY is heralded as a "world star", but he announced on his twitter that the "world star" lifestyle is not to his liking. He tweeted, "I used to perform over 15 songs on average on any stage, but I've lasted this whole year with just 2 songs! I need to let loose with you guys, so let's go crazy for one night!" Before his explosion onto the international music scene, PSY was referred to as the "master of concerts". Although he forwent his annual New Year's Eve concert last year because of Gangnam Style's fame, he has repeatedly expressed his desire to perform back in his "home field".

Jo Yong Pil, commonly referred to as the "Godfather" of Korean music, released his 19th album "Hello" this year and had unmatched success. He will be having his encore concert to wrap up his 2013 music activity and hopefully return sooner than later with a new album.

Other veteran singers such as Lee Seung Hwan and Park Jin Young will also hold December concerts. Lee Seung Hwan is looking forward to his 25th anniversary of his music career in 2014 and has announced that he will have a retro-concert that will showcase most of his hit songs that spanned nearly three decades. Park Jin Young will hold his trademarked and wildly popular "NC-19" concert in December.

Lee Juk and Brown Eyed Soul are other veteran singers preparing for concerts in December. Rose Motel, who garnered some popularity after their appearance on Infinite Challenge, are also planning for a concert of their own.

Some stars are deciding to take the stage together to provide their fans with a very different experience. Korea's premier band Yoon Do Hyun Band (also known as YB) is performing with starlet diva Park Jung Hyun. This event was put together by an event company who were excited about the prospect of putting a pure R&B singer like Park Jung Hyun with the pop rock sound of YB. One event manager explained, "Their synergy is amazing, and no one is going to regret coming to this one."

Gummy and Wheesung, who are good friends and ex-lovers, will be repeating their 2005 Duet Concert this December.

SM's hottest stars are coming together for an SM concert that will be spread over 9 days. SHINee will perform on the 21st, and Girls' Generation will take the next day, the 22nd. f(x) and EXO will perform together for the the 24th and the 25th, followed by TVXQ who will perform on the 26th and the 27th. Super Junior will wrap it up with back to back concerts for the 28th and the 29th. SM will sell the tickets in two formats - "ALL TICKET", which grants access to all the concerts, and the "Choice Ticket", which grants access to four of the eight concerts.

Album Review: Miss A Delivers A Sensuous And Musically Diverse Album With 'Hush'

Miss A sets out to attract new audiences with Hush.

Miss A sets out to attract new audiences with Hush.

Miss A crosses over from the youth market with Hush, a thirteen track, full-length album whose songs illustrate the trials and tribulations of being a single woman. The initial marketing for Hush delivered the message that Miss A intended to project a more mature image which they successfully achieve. In addition to the title song, Come Tonight and Hide & Sick, serve as testimonies to the conflict many young women face after shedding the fierce independence of I Don't Need A Man. While the production of J.Y. Park is noticeably absent from the album, Hush maintains some of the signature JYP sound, while demonstrating the full potential of Miss A.

While there is a presence of electro pop and European house on the album, Hush is very much a pop album. Spotlight is a standout example of an uptempo K-Pop song that breaks up some of the album's dark tone. Hush swings the pendulum from the joy of a new found connection which may or not have been established in a club to the lows of breakup. Hide & Sick contrasts with Spotlight, both lyrically and with its dark synthpop track. The juxtaposition of these two songs sets the overall tone for Hush.

The jazzy Mama (I'm Good) is one of the songs which sounds most like it belongs to a JYP artist. The sedated instrumentals help to establish a backdrop for Miss A's vocals, in a way which the more club friendly songs do not. It is often frustrating to hear strong vocalists on house or EDM songs, as the music can potentially overtake the song itself. In the case of Times Up, the house track has been subdued to allow for a very catchy dance anthem.

The similarly named Over U and Love is U exemplify bubblegum pop, although Love is U features an interesting hip-hop break. Although, the songs make sense in terms of the album, they sound slightly dated in comparison with the overall album. Over U resembles the musical structure of a mid-career Britney Spears single, which works against it. While I Don't Need A Man maintains some of those qualities, the song perfectly completes an album which opens with an invitation to stay the night and closes with the conclusion that men are unnecessary.

Miss A has demonstrated that the group has infinite potential with Hush. Their musical independence, in terms of production from J.Y. Park, works to their advantage by providing them with a diversity of sound which helps to transition them into maturity. With Hush, Miss A has provided a soundtrack that is perfect for a night at the club as well as evening at home. In its digital form, Hush is currently performing at number one on most of the real-time chart, beating out many of the recent comebacks. The physical album of Hush will be released on November 11th.

Primary Speaks His Frustration on the Plagiarism Controversy, "It' Was Purely Accidental"

Primary has addressed the issue for the final time - "The song was not plagiarized, and the 'original' songwriter has stated as much. I hope this ends all controversy."

Primary's song, "I Got C", was his duet with comedian Park Myung Soo on MBC's "Infinite Challenge" for their annual concert. The song was accused of being very similar to Caro Emerald's "Liquid Lunch". However, Caro Emerald, when approached with this issue, said she had no issue with Primary or his song, stating that the songs were not similar.

Primary's management company, Amoeba Culture, has issued a statement saying, "The most pressing issue was whether Caro Emerald thought it was a plagiarism of her song. She has stated that Primary hasn't plagiarized her, so let's not address this issue any further."

They added, " 'I got C' and 'Liquid Lunch' are two songs that are technically very different, but may sound similar because they are both an unusual fusion genre of Swing and Retro Hip-hop. Perhaps this was the cause of the accusation."

Primary has been gaining mainstream popularity since his appearance on "Infinite Challenge". The attention may have been one of the impetuses for such accusations as well.

Primary and Park Myung Soo formed the "Leech" team (Geomary) , featuring Dynamic Duo's Gaeko, and performed "I Got C" on stage and have since topped online charts as the #1 hit from the concert.

The accusations came from the netizens who stated that Primary stole the melody from Caro Emerald's "Liquid Lunch".

BoA Reconciles With Gil?

Singer BoA apologized to Gil.

Today, BoA posted on her Twitter, "S, so, sorry." Gil had previously said, "Who do I have to sue? Ttoogi? BoA? Or both? Sigh. Never mind. I'm just going to drink and get over it." BoA's Tweet was her response to this.

In MBC "Infinite Challenge" aired yesterday, Gil asked BoA for a kiss on his cheek if he successfully did the hat performance. He succeeded, but the person who kissed his head was not BoA but Yoo Jae Suk.
